Signal Hill Petroleum is proud to be a contributing member to the growth and development of the Ukleja Center at California State University, Long Beach. The Ukleja Center, who currently celebrated its 10 year anniversary, is a program that focuses on equipping youth with the transformational power of ethical leadership. Their vision is to strengthen communities by creating a culture that inspires ethical practice through education, research, and community outreach.

SHP’s Director of Business Development and Community Relations, Debra Russell, has been a governing council member for the Ukleja Center for the past five years. Her core involvement is focused on community outreach, which is one of the three pillars that the Ukleja center stands for.

Through her involvement in the program Russell has engaged SHP by hosting students at the corporate office to learn about the oil industry and the many ethical challenges faced on a daily basis. SHP has continued its involvement with the program because it coincides with the company’s values, to get involved, give back, and make an impact on the community it works in.

At the Ukleja Center’s 10 year anniversary celebration, Russell spoke about her involvement with the program and why she supports their core values. She expressed that, “community members hold a big role in the education of young people. It is important that we share our real life experiences, and teach about the consequences of making important ethical decisions.”

SHP would like to congratulate the Ukleja Center on their successful 10 years of educating California State University, Long Beach students on the importance of being an ethical leader.
