On April 13th Signal Hill Petroleum gave a presentation to a few California Assemblymembers on the daily operations and benefits SHP provides to the local and state economy.

The Assemblymembers tour began off the shores of Long Beach on THUMS Islands, followed by Valero’s refineries and ended on the hilltop to learn about urban oil operations first hand. Although the majority of the Assemblymembers had experience with oil operations within their own districts, they were surprised to see the stark difference between the historical photos of porcupine hill, and the modern day urban oil field with active wells throughout the community.

After learning that the City of Signal Hill was established because of oil and that Signal Hill Petroleum was founded in 1984, the real tour began. The Assemblymembers were driven around the City of Signal Hill to see how oil operations co-exist harmoniously with residents and businesses in such close proximity. Good conversation was had about safety, sustainability and current legislation throughout the tour.

True to form, the tour ended on the top of the hill by the famous, “Tribute to the Roughneck” monument for a photo op. SHP always appreciates the opportunity to showcase and inform our local and state leaders about our company and industry. Thank you to all that attended.
