Signal Hill Supports Long Beach Library
November 1, 2012Signal Hill Petroleum Employees Cross Finish Line to Raise Funds for the Long Beach Public Library Foundation.
Long Beach, Calif. – November 1, 2012 – Twenty-three Signal Hill Petroleum (SHP) employees went the distance in the Long Beach Marathon to raise money for the Long Beach Public Library Foundation (LBPLF).
On October 7, 2012, runners started and ended the 26.2 mile journey in downtown Long Beach through significant points of the city like Marine Stadium, Blair Field, and through a Cal State Long Beach alleyway filled with cheering students.
The group raised $2,000 from the race, which SHP donated to support the program: Long Beach Reads One Book. The foundation has provided the program to the Long Beach community for the last ten years, with a goal to have thousands of community members connect by reading the same book.
Debra Russell, Director of Business Development & Community Relations, stated, “We are proud to support local organizations, like the LBPLF, that work hard to enhance our community through education.”
For 2013, the LBPLF has chosen the book The Art of Racing in the Rain for the program. On March 19, the author, Garth Stein, will come to Long Beach to answer questions about the book and discuss his writing of the novel. The event will take place at the Carpenter Center at CSULB.
The SHP team was among 2,800 other marathon runners that shared the goal of reaching the finishing line. SHP runners proudly wore bright yellow shirts that read in bold letters, “Signal Hill Petroleum Supports the Long Beach Public Library Foundation.”
