Partners of Park
March 15, 2013Partners of Parks Helps to Celebrate Celebrating the 7th Year of “Movies in the Park”
The “Movies in the Park” program began its seventh year on June 25 with a screening of the movie “Happy Feet” at Signal Hill Park in recognition of the support of Signal Hill Petroleum (SHP), which donates funds each year to show 30 free movies shown in Long Beach parks from June through August. Partners of Parks works with SHP to administer the donation and help make Movies in the Park happen. Partners of Parks Executive Director Drew Satariano joined Debra Russell and Ashley Schaffer from SHP, Parks, Recreation & Marine Director George Chapjian, and the Movies in the Park staff led by LBPRM Recreation Superintendent Michelle Gingras and Recreation Assistant Anthony O’Dell in a check presentation ceremony at the June 12 Long Beach City Council Meeting.
The group heard from the Mayor and City Council about the positive impact of the program in the community resulting from the welcoming and positive interaction of staff with families. They noted staff’s efforts to create a fun atmosphere with moon bounces, face painting, balloon artists and family games before each movie, and then oversee free popcorn and a feature presentation.
Signal Hill Petroleum was cited as a model corporate citizen and Partners of Parks was acknowledged for their indispensable role in supporting “Movies in the Park” and dozens of recreation programs, services and facilities. In presenting the Signal Hill Petroleum with a Mayoral Proclamation for the program, Mayor Foster thanked SHP for providing “joy and entertainment for the community.”
