Signal Hill Petroleum was ecstatic to be a part of last night’s opening night of Movies in the Park. As the sponsor of this program for the last 12 years, we could not wait to kick off the summer with one of our most favorite events. Families from all over Long Beach and Signal Hill gathered with their blankets and lawn chairs for the showing of Star Wars: Rogue One at Signal Hill Park. Free popcorn, blow up obstacle courses, and corn hole games were among the fun activities that were provided at the event.
Because it was such a great hit last year, SHP decided to continue with our new tradition of having an opening night raffle. Before the start of the movie we handed out free raffle tickets to all the kids at the event. Three lucky winners got to take home some awesome prizes. The first prize was a movie night basket complete with a movie, popcorn, candy, and a Fandango gift card. The second was a summer basket which had all the essentials for a perfect beach day, and lastly the crowd favorite, a bike. We were so happy to be a part of such a great night and are looking forward to the rest of the movie showings throughout this summer.
For the 12th consecutive year Signal Hill Petroleum is sponsoring the Movies in the Park program, which provides a series of free movies throughout Signal Hill and Long Beach. At the Long Beach City Council meeting earlier this month, we presented a $38,000 check to Partners of Parks for our donation to this program. We are committed to investing in communities where we operate and are proud to partner with local programs that directly benefit residents and businesses.
This year we increased the number to 30 movie showings throughout the summer time at 29 different parks sites. Popcorn, face paint, and moon bounces are some of the exciting activities that we will have to offer. Traditionally, two movies have been shown in Signal Hill each year. But this year SHP is excited to announce that we increased our donation amount to make sure that a 3rd additional movie will be brought to Signal Hill this summer. The classic film, E.T. has been added to the movie schedule and will be shown on Saturday, July 15th at Reservoir Park. We look forward to an exciting summer filled with popcorn, great movies, and time spent together with family.

Debra Russell, Director of Community Relations for SHP received a proclamation from Long Beach City Council for the Movies in the Park Series donation.
Signal Hill Petroleum presented a $27,500 check to Partners of Parks at the Long Beach City Council meeting Tuesday, June 14th. The donation will be used to finance the Movies in the Park program, which provides a series of free movies at local parks from June through August.
Debra Russell, Director of Community Relations at Signal Hill Petroleum, presented the check on behalf of the company.
“We are proud to sponsor the 11th consecutive year of the Movies in the Park series with Partners of Parks,” Russell said. “At Signal Hill Petroleum we are committed to investing in the communities where our business footprint resides and are proud to partner with local programs like Partners of Parks to give back to the residents of Long Beach and Signal Hill. The time spent together as a family is priceless and we are so honored for this opportunity to bring families together with a fun-filled evening of movies, popcorn and a true sense of community.”
Attracting over 10,000 people annually, Movies in the Park provides free family-friendly entertainment and popcorn for families throughout Long Beach, Signal Hill and the surrounding communities. The $27,500 gift will fund the showing of 29 movies at 27 parks throughout the Long Beach and Signal Hill area.
The 2016 Movies in the Park series began Monday, June 20th with the showing of Star Wars; The Force Awakens at Signal Hill Park. Other features include “The Good Dinosaur”, “Inside Out” and “Zootopia”. For the complete Movies in the
