SHP Attends Guidance Center’s Grand Opening

 The Guidance Center provides a comprehensive variety of mental health services to more than 2,400 children and families in the communities of Long Beach! I got the privilege of seeing the grand opening of the new Guidance Center facility.  The bright green exterior was immediately welcoming and the bright colorful interior could not have been more perfectly designed for the goals of the facility. Patricia Costales, the Guidance Center’s Executive Director, welcomed everyone to the new facility expressing the life changing opportunities the Guidance Center can offer the community of Long Beach.

“People’s mental health needs are complex.  If a small child has an ear infection, the prescribed treatment is typically Tylenol. If that same child is removed from his parents for abuse or neglect, the way he emotionally responds to his foster placement and the way we help him to feel and function better can vary greatly by child.”
