Finding Value in Mature Basins

May 20, 2016

SHP staff from the engineering department were invited to speak at the “Pacific Section Playmaker Forum: Finding Value in Mature Basins” conference. The conference was organized by Greg Gordon from Area Energy, and Kurt Neher from California Resources Corporation, under the Pacific section of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and the AAPG Education Department.

It was an all-day event that was held at Aera’s training facility in Bakersfield, adjacent to the California State University Bakersfield campus. Being so close to the campus, it encouraged student to attend along with 100 other professionals from the energy industry. There were in total 10 different presentations centered on the efforts to locate and produce new oil reserves in Southern California.

Team SHP’s presentation was titled “Long Beach 3D: 90 Years of Missed Pay in the Long Beach Field”; which explained SHP’s innovative work in characterizing the almost century year old super giant oilfield hidden below the urban landscape of Signal Hill and Long Beach. The presentation concluded with the discussion about the success of locating new sources of American oil.

“This was an excellent opportunity to show-off SHP’s achievements and capabilities to our peers in the industry. The talk was well received and initiated worthwhile discussions with a number of people we might not otherwise have met.”

– Richard Higley, SHP Senior Exploration Advisor

Thank you to the SHP members who took the time from their busy schedules to participate in an educational forum.
