Free Signal Hill Tutoring Program

This fall, Signal Hill students will once again have access to free academic support through the City of Signal Hill Tutoring Program. Now entering its third year, the program is expanding beyond math to include reading support, giving students even more opportunities to build confidence and succeed in the classroom.

The program was developed through the efforts of Signal Hill Petroleum Chief Operating Officer David Slater and Community Relations Manager Melissa Lynch, who saw an opportunity to provide local students and families with greater access to academic support. What began as a partnership between Signal Hill Petroleum, the City of Signal Hill and Mathnasium has continued to grow each year, while remaining focused on making additional educational resources more accessible to local families.

“Education is such an important resource, but additional tutoring isn’t always something every family has access to,” Slater said. “We wanted to help remove that barrier and give local students an opportunity to get that extra support at no cost to their families.”

Since the program began, approximately 60 students have participated. Signal Hill Petroleum continues to fully fund the tutoring services, allowing eligible Signal Hill families to access additional academic support at no cost.

This year, the program is taking another step forward by welcoming Kumon and expanding to include reading support. Students will now have access to personalized instruction in both math and reading, providing additional opportunities to strengthen foundational skills and build confidence throughout the school year.

Signal Hill Petroleum is proud to continue investing in educational opportunities for local students. Together with the City of Signal Hill, Mathnasium and Kumon, the program continues to grow while staying focused on its original purpose: providing students with additional tools and support to help them succeed.
