Response to Incident off of 20th Street and Redondo Ave

LONG BEACH, CA- Wednesday, November 11th, 2020- At approximately 8:15 AM this morning there was a failure of an electrical transformer at a Signal Hill Petroleum, Inc. (SHP) test station located off of Redondo Ave and 20th Street in the City of Long Beach. The failure resulted in an explosion and fire that was quickly extinguished by SHP crews. Multiple units from the Long Beach Fire department responded and stood by with hoses ready. All damage was confined within the block wall surrounding the facility. The test station has equipment for testing the daily production rates of oil wells operated in this area by SHP on behalf of the Signal Hill East Waterflood Unit. No chemicals are stored at this site.

SHP takes every measure possible to ensure a safe environment for both residents and businesses within the community. The timely and immediate response to this incident is a small glimpse into the thought, planning and concern this company has for its community. Although all measures are taken to prevent incidents, accidents do happen. Therefore, detailed plans, along with highly trained staff, are some of the items SHP strongly believes and invests in.
